FAO-EPSO Workshop on “Plant Sciences for Sustainable Crop Production: Strengthening Partnerships between Europe and Developing Countries” which will be held in FAO Headquarters, Rome between 25-27 June 2012.
The Workshop focus is on increasing scientific collaboration between European and Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) Universities/Research Institutions and Universities/National Agronomic Research Organizations (NAROs). As a first step, together with the partners, this consultation will be organized in Rome bringing together decision makers, scientists and members from Europe and from SSA.
The aims are to identify ways forward for shaping long term partnerships linking researchers and farmers in plant sciences for sustainable intensification of agricultural production, and to define a set of pilot projects for initial collaboration. The pilot project proposals will be on the topics of: 1) maize and associated legume crops; 2) cassava value chain and 3) use of underutilized/local fruit and vegetable crops.
